The standard Ford Focus RS is already a pretty quick car. In fact, with 345hp, a 4.7-second 0-62mph time and a top speed of 165mph, it’s among the quickest hot hatches ever built. Inevitably, however, someone decided that too much still isn’t enough, so tuning experts at Mountune have bestowed the Focus RS with even more oomph.
Costing a modest £899 on top of the RS’s £31,000 asking price, you get a high performance air filter, sporty silicon hoses and new software for the car’s computer. These additions help the engine breathe and burn fuel better to produce a frankly ludicrous 370hp – 25hp more than the standard model.
This drops the 0-62mph time by 0.2 to 4.5 seconds making it faster than a Porsche 911, not to mention the older Lamborghinis and Ferraris that once took pride of place on your bedroom wall. The 165mph top speed remains unchanged, but then many rivals are limited to 155mph. Its fastest figures are achieved using an overboost function that operates for 12 seconds when you floor the throttle.
Straight line speed is just one string on the RS’s bow, however. Thanks to its standard torque vectoring and four-wheel-drive system, the Focus RS can mash your brain into the side of your skull around a corner with incredible ease. As ever, the Focus’ unique Drift mode lets you slide the tail out around corners provided you’re on a track (of course) and willing to accept the potential damage your overconfidence could cause.
The kit can be fitted at any Mountune-appointed Ford dealer and takes just an hour and a half to install. Like the similar upgrade to the Fiesta ST, the kit has no bearing on your three-year warranty.
