BMW M140i (2015-2019) interior

The BMW M140i’s interior looks fairly smart and everything’s easy to use, but it can’t hold a candle to the high-tech screen-fest you get in the latest Mercedes AMG A35

Style

If you were expecting the BMW M140i’s interior to look significantly more sporty than the standard 1 Series, you might be a bit disappointed. Sure, you get a few metal trims with blue highlights, but everything else has been carried over pretty much unchanged from the standard model.

At least that means everything feels nice and solid, though. You won’t find many surfaces that creak when you prod them and almost all of the dashboard and door trims come with a soft-touch plastic finish.

The front seats are more supportive than in the standard 1 Series, too, and come with leather upholstery as standard in either black and blue or a two-tone brown design. You also get some metal door sill trims with M140i badging and extended mood lighting as standard.

You won’t find too many cheap-feeling materials in the BMW M140i’s cabin. Sadly, you won’t find any particularly interesting design flourishes, either…

Infotainment

The BMW M140i comes with a 6.5-inch infotainment display mounted on the dashboard. It’s bright, easy to read and the menus are a doddle to navigate through using the intuitive scroll wheel down on the centre console.

You can upgrade to a larger 8.8-inch screen which is even easier to quickly glance at while you’re driving, but satellite navigation comes as standard whichever unit you go for. It’s easy to input an address using either the on-screen keyboard or by writing letters onto the top of the touch-sensitive scroll wheel and it calculates routes quickly. The directions it delivers are clear and easy to follow, too.

If you want to use your phone’s navigation apps instead, however, you’re out of luck. Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring is an optional extra and you can’t get any BMW M140i with Android Auto.

At least Bluetooth connectivity is included as standard, so you can play music from your phone through the BMW M140i’s stereo. On the subject of stereos, go for a BMW M140i Shadow Edition and you get an upgraded Harman Kardon unit that sounds punchier than the rather mediocre standard unit.
